I’m doing something a little different. The Four is at rest. The entire book is in my head but 5000 words in, I realise I need to find a way (later) to format the story in a logical way as we have 5 characters following each other throughout time. One destined to be the killer and the other four destined to reinstate the beasts that ruled before man. It is also my last Cthulhu based tale.

Back to the book I’m working on now. It’s a kick-ass thriller involving worm holes, demons and a cubical worker. That’s all I am going to say about it, but I am very excited about this non-Cthulhu tale. Those who have braved my previous novels, especially Resurrection Child know that my work is complex, with many layers and characters having both an evil and a good side. And this book will be no different but perhaps a little more mainstream. Hence, I have started outlining. And I have no idea what the effen hell I am doing.

I have three pages of the main outline (plot) (synopsis) of the book and it is all nicely mapped out. I have the starting few pages of chapter one. And it is all hand written. the entire book is alive in my head, I know the start, End and some of the middle.

What I am hoping is that someone out there who outlines their entire book first, could give me some pointers on what an outline should look like and how it is laid out, major points to include, and stuff like that. I checked at Amazon for some outlining books but (apart from Holly Lisle) I have never heard of these people before. Who are they? And what makes them an expert? Have they written fiction genre novels following their own book and rules? The reason I ask this is because their are many people who write a How To book but a search on their name brings up only the How To book.

If you know of a good outlining book (paperback) please let me know.

Please share this with others if you think a friend might know of a book or be able to help out.

We can’t count the number of times we’ve wanted to enact vengeance on some inconsiderate audience member whose cell phone goes off during a performance. But, like most people, we just bottle that fury up deep down inside and take it out on the break room vending machine later. Not Kevin Williamson. Last night the National Review writer was in attendance at the marvelous new musical Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 when one theatergoer’s incessant cell phone use finally drove him over the edge… into vigilantism.

The stellar production—a swinging cabaret-type musical adaptation loosely adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace—takes place inside a luxuriant carnival tent nestled next to the Standard High Line. The audience is closely clustered at small tables throughout the room, and while there is food and beverage service before the show and during intermission, the performance itself takes place with zero table service interruptions, and the atmosphere is as quiet and attentive as any other conventional stage play. At least it’s supposed to be.

Although each table is explicitly told that photography and cell phone use is strictly prohibited during the performance, the people seated around Williamson were, he says, unbearable. “They were carrying on a steady conversation throughout entire show,” Williamson, who also writes a theater column for New Criterion, tells us. “They had been quite loud and obnoxious the entire time. There were two groups, one to the left and one to the right who were being loud and disruptive.

“During intermission, Williamson’s date complained to the theater’s management, but he says he didn’t personally witness the theater managers admonish the disruptive audience members. And once the performance resumed, the woman sitting to Williamson’s right on his bench would not, he says, stop using her cell phone. “It looked like she was Googling or something,” Williamson tells us. “So I leaned over and told her it was distracting and told her to put it away. She responded, ‘So don’t look.’ ”

There’s a new video from Russia that’s moving the world to tears, just with its simple content: random acts of human kindness. Using the same car dashboard cameras that brought images of a falling meteor to the world, it shows Russian drivers helping out animals, pedestrians and fellow drivers in a manner that defies traditional stereotypes and puts many of us to shame.

We’re happy to report that the video has reached Japan, and it’s wielding its magic over viewers here as well. Given the tense relationship between Russia and Japan, locked in a territorial dispute and still technically at war, having never signed a peace treaty after World War II, it’s nice to see that people in Japan are responding to the kindness in the video and rethinking the old stereotypes. View the full video and see what the Japanese have to say about it, after the break.

Comments about the video have come from people all around the world:

“I didn’t believe in humanity until I saw this video. It brought hope” (Finland)

“This video made me wanna be a Russian. Congratulations Russia you have not males but men!” (Kuwait)

“This is the start of World Peace. Thank you very much for lifting our spirits” (Uruguay)

“Wow I didn’t realize a lot of Russians were such helpful people” (India)

“In the Western world the stereotype is that Russians are cold brutes so it’s nice to see this video” (Canada)

According to a May 5 report in the Chosun Ilbo, a major South Korean daily, a police officer who arrived on the scene of a reported rape in progress in Suwon, the capital of Gyeonggi-do Province, failed to help the female victim claiming he misunderstood the situation as being an act of mutual consent, even though the perpetrator, a man in his twenties, was wearing an electronic ankle monitor and had a history of sexual offense.

The report stated an officer rushed to the scene in response to a tip and found two people engaged in an act of sexual congress. “When I got there, I found them having sex; it looked very natural and the man didn’t appear to have any kind of weapon, I could only assume the act was consensual.” As such, the officer decided to “observe the situation” for a while.

Further trying to justify his lack of action, the office stated, “Even if, for example, the man was committing a sexual assault, I thought that if I tried to break it up while he was in the middle of the act, it could be dangerous for the woman.” Thus, the officer continued to “monitor the situation” for one hour. People throughout the country became enraged upon learning of the incident, and strong criticism has been leveled at the police for standing by and doing nothing to help the women even though an officer was on the scene.

Renowned author Dan Brown woke up in his luxurious four-poster bed in his expensive $10 million house – and immediately he felt angry. Most people would have thought that the 48-year-old man had no reason to be angry. After all, the famous writer had a new book coming out. But that was the problem. A new book meant an inevitable attack on the rich novelist by the wealthy wordsmith’s fiercest foes. The critics.

Renowned author Dan Brown hated the critics. Ever since he had become one of the world’s top renowned authors they had made fun of him. They had mocked bestselling book The Da Vinci Code, successful novel Digital Fortress, popular tome Deception Point, money-spinning volume Angels & Demons and chart-topping work of narrative fiction The Lost Symbol.

The critics said his writing was clumsy, ungrammatical, repetitive and repetitive. They said it was full of unnecessary tautology. They said his prose was swamped in a sea of mixed metaphors. For some reason they found something funny in sentences such as “His eyes went white, like a shark about to attack.” They even say my books are packed with banal and superfluous description, thought the 5ft 9in man. He particularly hated it when they said his imagery was nonsensical. It made his insect eyes flash like a rocket.

Renowned author Dan Brown got out of his luxurious four-poster bed in his expensive $10 million house and paced the bedroom, using the feet located at the ends of his two legs to propel him forwards. He knew he shouldn’t care what a few jealous critics thought. His new book Inferno was coming out on Tuesday, and the 480-page hardback published by Doubleday with a recommended US retail price of $29.95 was sure to be a hit. Wasn’t it?

I’ll call my agent, pondered the prosperous scribe. He reached for the telephone using one of his two hands. “Hello, this is renowned author Dan Brown,” spoke renowned author Dan Brown. “I want to talk to literary agent John Unconvincingname.”

keep reading, it gets better via Don’t make fun of renowned Dan Brown – Telegraph.

Remember the bank robber who waited on the sofa at the request of his “victim” tellers? He may have competition for most polite criminal with a 23-year-old woman from the rural town of Noto, Japan.

In fact, her attempt at armed robbery of a convenience store was so gentle police are currently unsure what charges they can press.

Around 8pm on the evening of 5 January a woman burst into the Circle K convenience store brandishing a large blade like a kitchen knife.

“Give me all the money” she demanded of the clerk.

Apparently sensing this lady didn’t mean business the clerk decided to flat out lie and said “there is no money.”

The woman, caught off guard by this sudden new development quickly lost the heart for crime and dejectedly requested the clerk to “call the police, please.”

The clerk accepted and called 110 to which the police promptly responded and came to arrest the young woman. Upon her arrest the woman confessed saying that she simply wanted some money.

Taking this story at face value it would seem that the woman lost her nerve and folded under the pressure of threatening people. On the other hand, maybe – just maybe – this woman is a criminal genius on the level of Keyser Söze.

According to reports, as of this writing, police are carefully investigating the details of this incident including whether or not the woman’s actions qualify for attempted robbery charges.

It begs an interesting dilemma on where to draw the line of “attempted robbery.” If someone in a full body cast tells another person to hand over their money, technically they are attempting to rob. However, should they be charged with a felony?

Holding the knife would seem qualify her to be charged but based on the clerk’s reaction she apparently didn’t present any threat in spite of her weapon. It’s a dilly of a pickle.

Yuki Kashiwagi, from the popular pretty-girl singing group AKB48, appeared in a recent video that became instantaneously infamous for being uncomfortably erotic. How anyone can be surprised by the groups not-so-subtle eroticism after watching the music video of them making out in their underwear is beyond me, but reading the responses to this two-minute clip, you’d think that Yuki recently joined the porn industry! As it turns out, this video is an official AKB48 release and in no way restricts underage viewers from watching it. So what sort of G-rated film has sent so many minds to the gutter?

In short, the video depicts Ms. Kashiwagi preparing and eating a bowl of tororo, grated yam. For those who have never seen tororo, it’s a thick liquid, white, sticky, and a little bit slimy in texture. Sound like something else you can think of? There’s a reason that viewers got a little hot under the collar from watching this clip. It looks a lot like she’s gulping down spoonfuls of man-juice! Apparently, the occasional shots of Yuki’s cleavage didn’t ease the sense of eroticism either.

Here’s a sampling of what Japanese fans had to say about the video:

“Can she do that?”

“This is so not cool.”

“This video is official, yeah? They took it too far.”

“Some say erotic, I say it’s vulgar.”

“Way too nasty! LOL”

“I’m saving this.”

“Has Yuki Kashiwagi seen tororo? She must have known what this looks like.”

“Oh, that poor girly…”

On any other day, Yuki Kashiwagi would be

This week, Joe Hill (born Joseph Hillstrom King) released his fourth book, a 700-page horror story called NOS4A2. In March, his brother, Owen King, published his first novel, Double Feature, about a young filmmaker grappling with disappointment after his first movie falls apart. The two books couldn’t be more different, but what their authors have in common, of course, is that their parents are Stephen and Tabitha King. Vulture spoke with the guys about their writing approaches, how they’ve learned to evade (and live with) their parents’ shadows, and who beat up whom as a kid.

Owen, aren’t you doing an event in Joe’s area?

Owen King: Yeah, I’m doing something at River Run Books in Portsmouth [New Hampshire].

Joe Hill: I’m sorry I’m not gonna get to see it: He’s doing a scene that involves an extended description of masturbating with dish soap, and I’ve got my boys and I felt like that might be a tough one for the 10-year-old.

OK: Yeah … I was actually just racking my brain about something else I could read.

Before you think about getting a tattoo, please make us all a promise here at SBSG, that it won’t ever be as bad as what you’re about to witness….

Maybe these 32 individuals lost a bet, maybe they got unlucky and ended up with the apprentice tattooist or maybe they just purposely decided to get some of the worst tattoos ever known to mankind, we can’t really be sure. What’s even more dumbfounding about these 32 acts of lunacy, is that they could have opted to get awesome tattoos like these (maybe not so much this lot mind you) – but instead decided to throw caution & logic out of the window.

The result are typos, multiple penises on foreheads, ode’s to Wal-Mart and McDonald’s and even Psy from Gangnam Style…

3. We Know Nothing About The Rest Of The World

For all of our talk about being global leaders and how everyone follows us, we don’t seem to know much about our supposed “followers.” They often have completely different takes on history than we do. Here were some brain-stumpers for me: the Vietnamese believe the Vietnam War was about China (not us), Hitler was primarily defeated by Russia (not us), Native Americans were wiped out largely disease and plague (not us), and the American Revolution was “won” because the British cared more about beating France (not us). Notice a running theme here?

(Hint: It’s not all about us.)

The TED (Technology Education and Design) website is easily one of my most favourite places in the entire digital world. With talks from industry experts, innovative thinkers and creative individuals with something valuable to say, I’ve lost hundreds of hours on the site watching presentations and listening to talks, absorbing knowledge and expanding my view of the world, galaxy, universe.

Filmed in February this year at a TED conference in Long Beach, California, the following video sees a young man by the name of Black take to the stage dressed like a cross between a ninja and a rock star. After telling the story of how he first picked up a yo-yo and struggled to perform even the simplest of tricks, he goes on to talk about how mastering this simple toy gave him the confidence he always lacked. As if more proof were needed having already seen him calmly address thousands of spectators in English, Black then launches into a yo-yo routine that left us completely open-mouthed.

The full video after the jump.

One of just three Japanese to have taken to the TED stage, as well as being crowned champion in the World Yo-Yo Contest in both 2001 and 2007 young Black is also a qualified systems engineer. Soon after completing his educational training, however, he realized that his real passion was in performing.

Back on the stage and looking cooler than ever, Black treated the TED audience to a show that saw him using a yo-yo to whip a table-cloth from under a vase of flowers and whirling two around at a time like some kind of martial arts weaponry. Spinning, flicking and twirling to music inspired by video game classics like Street Fighter 4 and anime Vivid Red Operation, Black’s performance really has to be seen to be believed.

As part of efforts by Kobe City to prevent suicides, a number of huge posters (each measuring 2.1 by 1.35 metres), have been set up on local subway platforms at Sannomiya Station, in Kobe’s Central Ward. While some have commended the effort, it seems that the crowds of commuters aren’t all on board with the somewhat depressing content, as the move has been generating a lot of criticism from the public.

With barely any illustrations or images to speak of, the black-and-white posters contain messages from people burdened with stress and problems. After the posters first appeared in March, the number of phone calls to the city office surged, with 1.4 times the monthly average calls received. However, rather than being unanimous messages of support, there were many calls of complaint from members of the public who said the posters were depressing to look at.

As an initiative to support Japan’s national suicide prevention month, these posters were attached to 21 pillars inside the station. The posters feature straight-talking quotes from five fictional men and women aged in their 20s and 60s. The quotes are blunt remarks about stresses related to work, child-rearing and caring for sick relatives. The quotes include common inflections used in the local area’s familiar Kansai dialect to make the messages sound more colloquial and increase their effectiveness.

One of the quotes, for example, is from a 35-year-old department head at a company, who says, “Since my promotion, my workload’s suddenly increased and I get home late so my wife and I always argue.”

A 21-year-old unsuccessful job-hunting student says, “Again, my interview sank like a ship. It’s hopeless; I should give up. It’s so bad I can’t sleep.”

Meanwhile, a 57-year-old housewife who is caring for her ailing mother is quoted as saying, “I practically never sleep. And I’m so exhausted having to move her around all the time.”

Two members of the Kanagawa Prefecture Police Force were arrested late last week on charges of extortion. Sergeants Mori and Arakawa of the Traffic Division and Organized Crime Unit, respectively, are believed to have abused their higher rank in order to coerce two female junior police officers into exchanging clothes in front of them. Sgt. Mori, meanwhile, is facing assault charges after he is believed to have attempted to kiss the pair.

Full details after the jump.

According to Kanagawa Prefectural Police, the incident occurred on 11 March, 2012 at an after-party to a farewell get-together for transferring staff members. In Japan, it’s common practice for groups of employees to transfer to other departments or offices at the end of the fiscal year.

This is why I was deported lol.

TV Emirates reported recently that three United Arab Emirates nationals were deported from Saudi Arabia for the crime of being “too handsome.”

This is certainly an uncommon criminal accusation, but one that we can relate to (some of our writers are banned in 26 countries for the opposite reason).

The three men were manning a booth representing the UAE at a cultural event in the Saudi capital city of Riyadh when the Saudi Mutaween (“religious police”) stormed the UAE booth and carried the men off, with women in the crowd presumably fainting left and right due to their sheer handsomeness.

Amphlett was 53 years old.

Amphlett’s husband of 14 years, former Divinyls drummer and multi-instrumentalist/producer Charley Drayton, confirmed in a statement that the charismatic singer died after battling multiple sclerosis since 2007 and breast cancer since 2010. “Chrissy’s light burns so very brightly,” Drayton stated. “Hers was a life of passion and creativity; she always lived it to the fullest…With her force of character and vocal strength she paved the way for strong, sexy, outspoken women.”
